Think about Education

July 20, 2008 - Leave a Response

What do I think about the political candidate? I find them to be of the same song as past candidates. They really haven’t said how they will conquer many of the issues facing the United States these days. Their talk of needing a change and they are the ones to turn The United States in a new direction, is just more of what was said 4 years ago and 8 years ago, but does anyone really change anything?

Technology is changing the face of education and it is changing fast. My classroom will be managed very differently then what some teachers are managing theirs and its all due to the fact that technology will be a big portion of how I will teach my students. Technology is becoming a resource for teachers which they can not afford to ignore or not learn to use. There are many technology tools available for teachers to help create a better learning environment within their classroom.

I think the NCLB has taught teachers to really look at the way they have been teaching their students. I don’t think the NCLB is a perfect program and it has many aspects which causes stress upon students and teachers alike. I do believe it has shown many teachers they are not teaching effectively. Many teachers have had to change the way they have taught for too many years. The NCLB has shown teachers there are many ways in which a child can learn. Teachers must use different strategies to teach all types of students.

Reflection about my website

July 9, 2008 - Leave a Response

Creating my web site has been fun. I have learned many new technology tools to make the site look interesting and fun. I will be changing part of my web site to include an area for my future classroom. I believe this will be a great tool to communicate with parents, to keep them informed of what is happening in class. With the use of the newsletter builder parents will be able to see what their students are learning. What I have disliked about the website is the constant editing, but other than this it has been a fun experience.

Classmates websites

The three websites I enjoyed looking over were created by Linda Smith, Amy Brungardt, and Alicia Denning. I thought these websites were creative and had a look which left me wanting to see more. I really enjoyed Linda’s background as I thought it blended well with the photo of her family. I was drawn to Amy’s because of how bright and cheerful it looked. Alicia’s looks great also and the color scheme was like mine so it gave me something in common with her.

Favorite podcast presenter

My favorite podcast presenter is Speaking of History with Eric Langhorst. He has a creative way of presenting history to his students. I look forward to listening to what Eric has come up with to hook his students on the importance of History.

What tools

The tools which I will continue to use will be; Twitter: I am not much on communicating with others but I do believe this is a great tool that can be used to create a great resource for teachers. Web page: I like this tool and will be using a web page for my class to keep parents informed as to what their child is learning in the classroom. I also like the scrapblog site; this has been a great tool to create scrapbook type pages. My daughter loves this tool and has been scrapblogging more than I have. I will be listening to podcasts for updates on technology tools to use in the classroom.

5 things that made me think

July 9, 2008 - Leave a Response

I would have to say every lesson during this class has made me think one way or another. The computer is a new adventure for me and figuring out all there is to accomplish with the computer has opened multiple doors for new experiences. The web pages have been a lesson in awe for those who have conquered it, as well as a source of frustration (arrgh!) for me as to why I haven’t conquered it yet. I have looked over my classmate’s web pages. They look great, while I view mine as so simple.
